How do I copy a DVD with copy protection?

I have a DVD rental that is not available for purchase and must be returned. The title is not available for purchase through any of the normal outlets. I only want to keep a copy of the Movie for myself until a legitimate version is produced for sale. I don't want to setup a camcorder in front of the TV. I want to filter out the copy protection encoded on the disk and record it on a DVD recorder from a DVD player.
