Help with painting a room!!??

im painting my bedroom and there are drawings alllll over the walls from when i was little, and i dont know if im supposed to put on like some sort of "base coat" or somthing to cover it before i put the color on, its drywall, help! what do i do to cover the crayon? (its been on so long i cant get it of now so i need to cover it)
